Brit Milah & Baby Naming

We welcome babies into our community by bringing them into the covenant between God and the Jewish people.

These covenantal ceremonies are the first step in raising Jewish children; they bring the past, present, and future together. For baby boys, the covenant of circumcision (brit milah) takes place on the eighth day following birth. For baby girls, a naming covenant (brit bat) usually takes place within the first year, in the context of being called to the Torah.

Temple can help you find a mohel, organize a reception, and even choose a Hebrew name for your child.

For children whose mothers are not Jewish, or who come into a family through adoption, we can also arrange for immersion in the mikvah to affirm their Jewish identity.
